Designer Diary #18 – Breaking Your Game & Behind the Scenes

Designer Diary #18 – Breaking Your Game & Behind the Scenes

Hi everyone! Anne here, dropping in from SigTrent Games. While Sigfried’s usually the one on camera or deep in the design docs, I wanted to share a bit about what’s been going on from my perspective, especially with all the exciting and challenging stuff happening lately.

The World of Shotgun Fantasy

It’s been really cool to see Shotgun Fantasy taking shape. Sigfried’s been buzzing about the new title treatment and, honestly, it’s pretty awesome. It’s got this totally retro, 80s action movie vibe that just pops. He was so excited to show it off on Discord, and it really does grab your attention!

And the character art sketches Frank sent over? So neat! Sigfried loves putting a twist on things, so our iconic fighter, rogue, wizard, and cleric aren’t just your typical fantasy archetypes. They’ve each got some anachronistic, time-traveling flair from their Shotgun Fantasy adventures, which I think is a super fun concept. I can totally imagine them as an adventuring party tossed into the modern world, or using some cool modern tech. It’s all coming together, and it’s exciting to see his vision become a reality.

My Streaming Adventures & The Wonderful World of Myst

Speaking of things I’ve been up to, if you’ve seen me streaming lately, you know I’ve been diving deep into the Myst series! It’s been a blast. When I was a kid, I watched my friends play the earlier ones back on the Macintosh and hear about their adventures, but experiencing the full lore and stories by reading everything out on Twitch has been incredible.

What’s even better is the community that’s joined in. Myst fans are seriously dedicated, and they’ve been amazing – helping me with little bits of lore or even nudging me towards puzzle solutions when I get stuck. It’s such a cool way to play retro puzzle games; the audience participation really makes it a unique experience.

Life’s Little Challenges

Life’s always an adventure, right? Sigfried mentioned some of the financial pressures and unexpected medical bills, and yeah, it’s definitely been a “keep us on our toes” kind of time. More hours at the gift shop mean less time for SigTrent Games, which is a tough juggle when you’re trying to build something big.

But you know what? We’re a team, and challenges, as Sigfried puts it, can actually be good. They keep us fresh, keep us hustling, and remind us why we’re doing this in the first place. I’m really proud of how he keeps pushing forward, even when things get a little tight.

We’re also looking forward to a little break next week – Sig will take a trip to see Eric from Evil Genius Games and then his family. Meanwhile, I’m going to take a deep dive into Google Digital Marketing & E-commerce Professional Certificate. I have read several books already on small business management and marketing, but I needed something much more substantial to help SigTrent Games grow.

Ultimately, we’re so grateful for all of you who support SigTrent Games, whether it’s through buying books, sharing our content, or just being part of our community. Your support genuinely helps us navigate these waters and keep building the games we love.

Thanks,

Anne
