Designer Diary #20 – Reading Other People’s Work
Hey everyone! It’s Anne here, Sig just released his latest video, talking all about Week 20. He dove deep into his work on Shotgun Fantasy’s isekai section. I’m also really excited about the Shotgun Fantasy character art that’s almost done. Sig’s been buzzing about it, and from what I’ve seen, you all are in for a treat next week!
He also mentioned his teleconference with the D&D-playing students, and that truly warmed my heart. He came away from that call so energized, just thrilled to share his passion with those kids. It really reinforced for him that putting your creative work out there can inspire so many.
He talks a lot in his video about the potential Kickstarter for Shotgun Fantasy and all the different crowdfunding ideas he’s juggling. It’s a big decision for an independent creator, and I see him constantly weighing the pros and cons to make the best choice for the company and for you, the players. He’s very dedicated to getting these games into your hands in the right way.
And then there’s his “game design tip of the week” about reading other people’s work. This is something I see him apply constantly. He’s always looking to learn and be inspired, but he’s also fiercely protective of his unique voice. It’s a careful balance, and he works hard to maintain his originality.
On the home front, things were busy but good. Sig was really happy to catch up with Eric from Evil Genius Games, and it sounds like Eric will be lending his expertise to edit Shotgun Fantasy, which is fantastic.
While he was visiting friends and family, I was busy diving deep into my Google Digital Marketing courses. I also streamed on Twitch and I wandered around Myst Online: URU Live (again). I was delightfully surprised that players had created their own Ages and Puzzles and released them on the URU live server.
It’s never a dull moment around here, and I love seeing Sig pour his heart into these games. If you haven’t watched his latest video yet, definitely check it out – he’s got all the details on what’s coming next!
See you next week!
Anne
