Designer Diary #3: First Product Announcement!
Hi everyone, Anne here – you might know me as Sig’s wife and partner in all things chaotic and creative, especially when it comes to Sig Trent Games. I often hear bits and pieces of what he’s working on, and this week’s developer diary was no exception. Let me give you my take on the whirlwind that is Sig’s world!
Finally! Those Character Sheets Are Becoming a Reality
For weeks now, I’ve been hearing Sig muttering about character sheets. Apparently, all those years of GMing have given him some strong opinions on how they could be better!
Honestly, I’m really excited about this first project for Sig Trent Games. It’s something tangible that we can work on together, and it’s born directly from his passion for Everyday Heroes. He’s been so thoughtful about the design – the colors, the layout, even the exact placement of each little box. And the auto-calculations? We’ve both been wanting something like this for ages, so this will be a huge time-saver for everyone. I hope the earnings from the Character Sheets will earn us enough to buy art for the next big project.
It’s also really important to us that this project helps fund what comes next. Sig has so many incredible ideas brewing, and these character sheets are the first step in bringing those visions to life. Plus, seeing him so determined to create something that’s both useful for the community and supports our little venture is really inspiring.
That “Experience-Driven Design” Thing He Talks About
Sig gets really animated when he talks about game design. This week, it was all about “Experience-Driven Design.” From my outsider perspective (though I do enjoy playing!), it makes a lot of sense. He always talks about wanting players to feel a certain way when they play Everyday Heroes – like they’re right in the middle of an action movie.
I’ve seen him tweak rules and mechanics, constantly asking, “Does this feel like that movie moment?” It’s fascinating to watch his brain work, trying to translate that cinematic energy into game mechanics. I think that focus on the player experience is what makes his game design so engaging.
Gaming Adventures and the Never-Ending Quest for Pals
Our evenings often involve venturing into virtual worlds. Right now, Palworld still has a serious hold on us. It’s actually been a lot of fun playing together. I tend to focus on building our bases into elaborate fortresses, while Sig is on a mission to capture every single Pal out there.
And then there’s Stellaris. When he’s in his “destroy or dominate the galaxy” mood — It’s definitely his way of unwinding after a long day of design and planning.
Life Beyond the Screen: Job Hunts and Haircuts!
It’s not all games and character sheets around here. Sig has been diligently applying for jobs, which can be a real grind. I know how much he wants to dedicate himself fully to Sig Trent Games, but in the meantime, finding the right external work is crucial. That Park Ranger interview sounded really promising, though! I think he’d be great at it – he’s always been good with people and loves being outdoors.
Oh, and the haircut! Yes, the long hair had a good run. It was a bit of a throwback, and I could tell he was curious to see if he could pull it off again. But honestly, the shorter hair looks fantastic on him – and it’s definitely more practical for being on camera. Plus, less tangles for me to deal with! 😉
What’s Next? Your Thoughts Matter!
It’s been amazing to see Sig pour his heart and soul into Sig Trent Games. The character sheets are just the beginning, and he’s already buzzing with ideas for the next project. That fantasy supplement sounds really cool, and the urban fantasy monster hunter concept has a lot of potential. And the wrestling game? Well, that would certainly be unique!
He really values your input, so please do head over to the Discord server (link below!) and let him know what kind of game you’d be most excited to see next. Your feedback helps shape the future of Sig Trent Games!
We’re both incredibly grateful for your support as we embark on this adventure. Keep an eye out for those character sheet previews – I know he’s eager to share them with you all!
Thanks for being part of the Sig Trent Games community!
