Designer Diary #4: Week Four in the Trenches!
Hi everyone! Anne here, Sigfried’s helper in this SigTrent Games adventure. Week four, can you believe it? It feels like just yesterday we were dreaming this up over tea, and now look at us!
Things have been buzzing around here, mostly thanks to Sig’s energy. My main focus this past week has been wrangling those character sheets for Everyday Heroes. Let me tell you, it’s been a deep dive into the land of form fields and auto-calculations! Thankfully, Sig gets pretty intricate on the rules and how they all connect, the details help when writting the scripts for the PDF.
We’re getting so close to having them ready, though! I’ve been doing a lot of clicking and typing, trying to break them in every way possible to make sure they’re smooth and helpful for your gaming sessions. The idea is to take away some of that initial number-crunching so you can jump right into the fun of playing your heroes. And trust me, seeing those fields magically fill themselves in is pretty satisfying! I might have missed some bugs, but if you find them just let us know at the SigTrent Games Discord.
It’s been interesting to hear Sig talk through the licensing for these too. He really wants them to be something that you can share with your immediate gaming group – that’s the kind of generous guy he is. But also, it’s a way for us to keep the lights on and fund future awesome projects (like that wrestling game he’s mulling over).
Speaking of which, “Everything Awesome Wrestling”… well, it’s certainly a title! I get to hear all his brainstorming sessions, which can be quite entertaining. Imagine trying to fit wrestling moves into a system designed for taking down bad guys! It’s a fun challenge for him, and I have no doubt he’ll come up with something brilliant and probably a little bit bonkers. I’m already picturing the playtesting sessions!
He’s also been showing me some of the art concepts he’s looking at for it – think big muscles, dramatic poses, the kind of stuff that just screams “professional wrestling!” It’s definitely going to have a unique look.
Beyond the game design nitty-gritty, I’ve been helping out with the website stuff. It’s been a journey transforming “SigTrent Plays Games” from humble blog and into more of a hub/shop/portfolio. There’s still some of his old streaming content up there for those who are curious, but now it’s got a proper protfolio and a store. Make sure you check out the freebies – that Everyday Heroes Quick Start Guide is a great way to dip your toes in!
One of the best parts of my “Girl Friday” roll is getting to listen to Sig’s ideas and provide feedback. Sometimes it’s just a nod and an “yep, sounds cool,” and other times it’s a “wait, how exactly would that work in a game?” I also get the fun job of being one of the first playtesters. Trust me, if a game mechanic makes sense to me, a relatively casual player, then it’s probably in pretty good shape!
It’s been a busy but exciting month for SigTrent Games. We’re learning a lot, and we’re so grateful for all the support and enthusiasm we’ve seen so far. Keep an eye out for those character sheets – they’re coming soon! And who knows what other wild and wonderful game ideas will spring from Sig’s brain next? I certainly don’t always know, but it’s always an adventure!
Thanks for being part of our journey!
– Anne 😊
