Designer Diary #5: Everyday Heroes Just Got Easier! New Character Sheets!
Okay, Anne here, and let me tell you – I am just so relieved these character sheets are finally done! It might sound simple, but seeing them go from an idea in Sig’s head to a tangible, usable tool has been quite the journey. And honestly? They’re fantastic.
What I love most about these Everyday Heroes character sheets is how incredibly helpful they are for creating characters, and fast! You know how it is when you’re getting ready for a game night – you want to jump in and start the adventure, not spend ages flipping through pages and trying to remember where everything goes. These sheets put all the essential information right at your fingertips in a clear, easy-to-read format. Trust me, that’s a game-changer.
Sig and I really collaborated on this project. He was the visionary, setting the direction and scope based on his extensive experience as a game designer and a GM. Honestly, the man makes characters all the time – for testing out new rules, prepping for his own campaigns… he truly knows what players need and want in a good character sheet. He’s been thinking about this for a long time, refining what works and what could be better.
And now, it’s all come together beautifully. As Sig mentioned in his latest YouTube video (go check it out if you haven’t!), we’ve packed these sheets with features designed to streamline your character creation and gameplay:
- Origin!: Finally, a dedicated spot to flesh out where your hero comes from! It seems so obvious, but having it clearly marked makes a real difference in building your character’s story.
- Smart Header Organization: The way the top section is laid out now just makes sense. It follows a natural flow that mirrors how you often think about your character as you’re building them.
- The Magic of Autofill: Oh my goodness, the autofill! This was one of the features I was most excited about. Inputting your ability scores and watching all the related skills and bonuses update automatically? It’s like a little bit of tech wizardry right there on your character sheet. It saves so much time and reduces the chance of errors.
- Weapon Stat Clarity: We listened to feedback! The weapon stat blocks are now much easier to read, with more space for damage types and other important details. No more squinting at tiny text!
- Archetype-Specific Page Twos: This is such a clever touch. Tailoring the second page to each archetype with pre-filled talents not only saves time but also highlights the unique strengths of each hero type.
- Companion and Contact Options: For those playing characters with companions or navigating the social intricacies of games like From the Vault, these new sections are invaluable.
- Space for Everything Else: With dedicated spots for vehicles, important locations, and plenty of notes, you can keep all the crucial details of your character in one place. Plus, those picture blocks are a fun way to personalize your sheet!
- And Yes… A Secret Easter Egg! I had to get a little something special in there. Keep an eye out – you never know what you might discover!
We’ve also made sure these sheets are printer-friendly, with clear lines for filling in information and auto-sizing text in the notes fields, so you can write as much as you need without it becoming a jumbled mess.
This has been a labor of love, and we truly believe these Everyday Heroes character sheets will enhance your gaming experience. As Sig mentioned, the initial sales will go directly towards funding the artwork for our upcoming projects, like the Everything Awesome Wrestling game and the Shotgun Fantasy setting. So, by picking up a copy, you’re not just getting fantastic character sheets – you’re also helping to bring more awesome games to life!
