Designer Diary #9 – Dice Feelings!
Hi everyone! Anne here. It’s always fun to see what he’s been up to during the week, and this one was a pretty typical mix of game design thoughts swirling in his head, some serious gaming, and a little bit of life sprinkled in.
First up, it sounds like the gears are turning over at SigTrent Games. He mentioned wanting to dive back into Shotgun Fantasy this week, which is always exciting. It’s his baby, and he gets so animated when he’s working on it.
Then came the “dice feelings” chat. Honestly, sometimes I just roll the dice and hope for the best! But it was actually really interesting to hear Sig break down how the number and sides of dice can change the whole feel of a game mechanic. His examples with shotguns versus rifles and those spooky spike traps made a lot of sense. It’s one of those things you don’t always consciously think about as a player, but it definitely impacts the experience.
Of course, no week is complete without a healthy dose of gaming! I heard him chuckling away while playing Vampire Survivors – that game seems strangely addictive. And apparently, it’s vampire-free, which is kind of silly. We played some Phasmophobia together, which his not as into as much as I am, but he’ll play a few rounds with me before moving on to some other game.
We also played actual D&D via the D&D Beyond VTT and Discord. The character he made, Bearizona the bear-themed druid, sounded absolutely ridiculous with that headband of intellect. I love it when he comes up with these quirky character concepts!
On the “life” front, he touched on the tariffs, which is definitely a worrying situation for a lot of folks in the tabletop industry. It’s a real shame because so many passionate people are trying to create amazing things.
But on a brighter note, he mentioned something really exciting – he’s starting to explore voice acting! I’ve always thought he has a great voice and a knack for creating different characters, so I’m really encouraging him to give it a shot. It’s a new adventure, and I’m excited to see where it leads.
So, that was Sig’s week in a nutshell! If you’re interested in game design, love tabletop games, or just want to hear about his random gaming adventures, make sure to check out his video. And if you want to connect with a cool community of gamers, join us on the SigTrent Games Discord Server!
Thanks for reading!
